According to Oleksandr Turchynov, the Ukrainian people have won their right to independent way of development – “to Europe and European democratic values.”
“We have begun serious transformations in economic and social spheres
that aim at building a lawful, independent and
democratic country and, despite the aggression of the Russian Federation,
we will follow this way,” he said. Chairman of the Parliament stressed that despite attempts of the Russian Federation to destabilize situation in the country and disrupt elections, “May 25 elections will be held.”
“In most parts of the country, elections will be held in a democratic and transparent manner,” he noted, saying that some places “terrorists will try to disrupt the electoral process, however, the authority is able to protect and localize terrorist threat.”
“Ukraine will never return to the Post-Soviet empire that the Russian Federation aspires to build. Ukraine will be an independent, democratic and European country, just as people of our state want it to be,” he summed.
In her turn, Madeleine Albright welcomed efforts of Ukrainian authority in preparation and holding of elections.
“This is a historical time today when Ukrainian people will be able to confirm their choice to be a part of a democratic world,” she said, emphasizing that Ukraine no doubt “has the right to western choice and to become part of Europe.”
